OK. were john and brian lovers or not? in "the hours and the times" movie, they have a wild gay romp in spain. (shitty movie by the way-- if you haven't seen it, don't). i wonder what kind of research those filmmakers did to come to that storyline?
i heard a tape yesterday from a john + yoko interview in the 60's where john says about the spanish weekend "i liked to play it a bit faggy, it's enjoyable...sitting in the cafes with brian and pointing out boys and and discussing them... but the rumors that got around liverpool, jesus." yoko snickers and john really sounds like it was something he didn't enjoy living down.
what do others think? i personally can't imagine they were lovers!!

Posted by eppylover (4/5/06 10:45 am) Thank you for your post! My opinion? Same as Lennon's: It's all irrelevant. And the obsession that people have on this subject sometimes seems to border on mockery (see your own subject line). If we have no way of knowing, I'd let it be, and stick to the facts - with any diversion from fact clearly labeled as such. Ridicule doesn't help, although we can hypothesize. Not that I don't like to poke wicked fun now and again, but not in a derisive, insulting manner that would hurt the great man's feelings if he were still alive ~ or hurt his family's feelings now. We certainly are products of the Jerry Springer age, aren't we? The brilliant Saki of rec.music.beatles very eloquently sums up the relationship between Brian and John (and the rest of the Boys) in this essay.

from what I understand, wouldn't Epstein not have let that happen, even if he wanted it to -- knowing that it would be such a dangerous thing for the band?

new to the board! hello everyone...
let's face it, the only ones who would REALLY know aren't with us anymore. Could they have "romped"? sure, why not. I mean they spent so much time together. forbidden love... it's dangerous, exhilarating and gets your blood pumping -- but when it has to end...

Right, but it gives people a titillating kick to speculate on a tabloid level rather than rationally.

John was such a womanizer though. I'm not sure he was curious enough to try it out. He seemed more interested in talking about it with Bri and I agree the Bri would have viewed it as unprofessional to take things that far.

Posted by eppylover (6/14/06 4:43 pm) I'm sorry but I'm in a naughty mood right now... And since this is a Brian/John thread, I feel I MUST include this comic: Please note that this masterpiece must be credited to the ChibBeatles! Lol, funny comic. I've read several Beatles bios and it seems like opinion is pretty well split as to whether anything might actually have happened. As Eppylover said, though, we should "let it be." As fun as it may be to speculate, it really doesn't matter. It's somewhat sad that these rumors sort of overshadow everything Brian accomplished. It's interesting to think about, but really...would it matter one way or the other if they did or didn't?? And anyway, as of now we have no way of knowing.
