Ringo Starr has announced the 2010 lineup of his 11th All Starr Band and the majority of its summer itinerary. Yesterday (January 12th), Ringo held a press conference at NBC Studios before taping his appearance on The Late Show With Jimmy Fallon, to publicize the release of his new album Y Not and formally announce the tour which will kick off on June 26th in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Ringo, backed by Ben Harper and his band performed abbreviated versions of two new songs Walk With You, and The Other Side Of Liverpool, along with the early Beatles classic I Wanna Be Your Man which featured Ringo behind his signature Ludwig drum kit.
In addition to Ringo, the 11th All Starr Band lineup features returning All Starr's Edgar Winter on sax and keyboards and Gary Wright, also on keyboards. Newcomers to the 2010 tour include Rick Derringer on guitar, Mr. Mister's Richard Page on bass, and the Romantics' Wally Palmer on guitar and harmonica. Session player Gregg Bissonette will double with Ringo on the drums. Although more dates are expected to be announced soon, one definite highlight of the tour will be Ringo's July 7th New York City gig at Radio City Music Hall which falls on his 70th birthday.

We asked Ringo if there was a conscious decision to perform on his birthday: "Yeah, I decided that I wanna play Radio City and have a party. Y'know, I'm blessed. I'm in a profession where as long as I can pick up the sticks I can work. And of course my big hero is B.B. King -- now he's 900 years old. We're just lucky, we just keep going and doin' it, y'know?"
Ringo explained that was dead set on radically changing the rules for recording Y Not: "I started making this record, just at home with a synthesizer -- you can make your record anywhere now. I did it in L.A. and a lot of friends in L.A. came by. And we had no songs and it was like the maddest record we ever made, 'cause we did the tracks and then I called writers and played them the tracks and said 'Let's write a song to that.' And that's how we did it. But yes, there's nothing on there that I didn't approve of."
