SIR PAUL McCartney is being honoured at tomorrow’s MTV Europe Awards.

He will be given a special Ultimate Legend Award at Thursday night’s event being staged at the ECHO arena.

MTV Networks International chairman and chief exec Bill Roedy said: “Sir Paul McCartney is one of the true greats.

“Not only has he has been one of the most formative influences on the music scene on a global scale but he is one of the founding fathers that has earned Liverpool the recent accolade as Most Musical City in the UK.

“We are honoured that Sir Paul has agreed to accept this award which is a fitting tribute to a man who has touched millions of lives with his music.”

MTV Europe Music Awards senior vice president, music and production & executive producer Richard Godfrey said: “Sir Paul’s dedication to sharing his experience and nurturing the next generation of talented artists is remarkable.

“It is fitting that on the fifteenth anniversary of the most prestigious live music event that MTV salutes him in his home town.”

U2 frontman Bono is set to present former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney with an Ultimate Legend award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool, England, tonight (06.11.08).

Bono is set to present Sir Paul McCartney with an Ultimate Legend award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The U2 frontman has been flown in especially to hand over the honour at tonight's ceremony (06.11.08), which will be held in the former Beatle's hometown of Liverpool, England.

A source said: "MTV chiefs have been in a massive quandary as to who will present the award to Liverpool's most famous son.

"It is a first ever for MTV Europe to create a gong like this. It's a one-off."

The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Bono and Paul get on like a house on fire, and their presence will be the talk of the night.

"One thing is for sure, Paul will certainly be bringing his guitar. It will be a flying visit but he is not likely to come to Liverpool without strumming a song."

Meanwhile, Beyonce, The Killers and Take That are expected to perform on stage, while Kid Rock and Pink are also due to attend.

Estelle and Kanye West will join forces at the event for their hit track American Boy.

The source said: "It's going to be spectacular."
