The important part of the linked article that Katie Hickox wrote starts directly below the photo of Sir George Martin ~ she attended Sir George's Grammy Foundation Special Presentation:

And now the eppylover rants ~
not about Katie's article linked above,
but about Brian Epstein tributes in general ~~
Katie was surprised to hear Sir George talk on and on about his old friend Brian.
I wish we had a reason NOT to always be surprised when Sir George Martin, Sir Paul or (not Sir yet) Ringo mentions (the probably never-to-be-knighted or even merely MBE'd) Brian. That's pathetic ~ they should be mentioning him at least as often as they mention John or George! And any mention of Brian by those three certainly shouldn't cause us to feel surprised. But unfortunately, it does.
And that sucks.
Besides, simply mentioning him isn't enough.
Those three surviving blokes should get off their thrones and DO something to put Brian back on his, where he belongs, a superstar just like they are.
I'm tired of the easily-dismissed talking-head "tribute" crap.
There are a few people trying in their own way to make Brian Epstein a household name (the movie, the statue, etc.), but without heavy pushes from Paul and/or Ringo behind these efforts, I'm afraid we're merely wanking off.
Brian Epstein should be Paul's mission, far above his "save the seals" or whatever the frick he does with his off time. Bugger the seals. Macca, bless his heart, spends more valuable press space on vegetarianism. Well, okay, I agree with him. Veggies are, of course, much more important than the man who put him up on his pedestal, where he is so easily able to inform the world about ...veggies! And seals!
Brian Epstein should be Ringo's mission, right next to the "peace and love" ~
Why do these seem like such impossible dreams?
I'm very happy that George Martin spent time talking about Brian in this way. Now, it would be much better (here I go again) if, instead of just SAYING these things, he (and Ringo & Paul?~don't hold your breath, heh) would DO something CONCRETE in that direction.
Words get spoken, words get printed; they come and go. I'm sure that, between the three, at least one of them could provide the creativity (and show some balls) to DO something outstanding for Brian's legacy, something unavoidably noticeable and unforgettable ~ before they also die like John and George did, without helping Brian ~ NOW is when they must do something that will hit people between the eyes, flash OUT THERE in the news, something that will leave Brian permanently worshipped as they themselves are. They OWE it to him, damnit! Why do I even have to say it?!
Katie may have been surprised to hear Sir George speak so much of Brian at that presentation, but the eppylover is sadly not surprised when reading the other news services' coverage of this same event ~
Last summer, at the time of the Grammy Foundation's Starry Night Presentation, there were many Google News articles on George Martin ~
(Many of the articles from the summer of the 2008 Starry Night for George Martin had great, great new photos of Sir George)
See some of them here
~ not once in any of the numerous printed released articles I checked for that event is Brian mentioned ~ except for Brian Cohen in Billboard, who only mentioned his name and that's it ~ even though, in the actual text of the speech, Sir George did talk about him and gave Eppy full credit for The Beatles' success because he pushed his boys at him with such determination.
He went so far as to say, if it hadn't been for Brian's persistence, George Martin would have surely REJECTED The Beatles. Sir George said so. However, as always, the press ~ except for my friend Katie Hickox ~ ignored that part completely.
We need the cooperation of the press ~ and who best to ensure that cooperation than Paul and Ringo themselves? Please, guys, don't just make a nice comment now and then ~ these comments get buried within the context of everything else. DO something, do whatever it takes, before you die, too, and any hopes for Brian die with you.
Okay, I'm done for now.
