A recent picture of Dora Bryan. On November 23, 1964, “All I Want For Christmas is a Beatle” (Fontana TF 427) by comedienne Dora Bryan went on sale. During her nightclub act at London’s Adelphi Theatre, Bryan was joined by three colleagues wearing suits and Beatle wigs. As “The Cockroaches,” they did a satirical tribute to the Fab Four. Some Beatle fans objected to having their idols treated in such an insulting manner, but The Beatles were very pleased. “I love the record,” said Paul in The Beatles Book Monthly, “and I think it is extremely funny. Let’s face it, Dora is funny, isn’t she? I went to see her show in London and it knocked me out.” George said, “I hope it’s a big hit.” Ringo also loved the song, while John said, “I enjoy people making fun of us. It makes a change from nasty comment.” All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle was the first Beatles-related novelty item. Released by Fontana on November 23, 1963.
