Beatles' Friend Neil Aspinall Dies at 66By The Associated Press 24/03/2008 LONDON (AP) — Neil Aspinall, a longtime friend and business associate of The Beatles, has died in New York City, the surviving band members said Monday. He was 66. Aspinall died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he had been receiving treatment. His death was announced in a statement released by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison, and the band's Apple Corps Ltd. company. "All his friends and loved ones will greatly miss him, but will always retain the fondest memories of a great man," the statement said. The statement didn't say when Aspinall died, but Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper reported Sunday that McCartney had flown out to see him. Aspinall stepped down last year as chief executive of Apple Corps, the guardian of the Beatles' commercial interests. A Liverpool school friend of McCartney and Harrison, Aspinall was The Beatles' first road manager and would drive them to gigs in his van. He later became their personal assistant, and in 1968 was given a management role at Apple Records — the band's own record label. As head of Apple Corps, Aspinall was executive producer of the hugely successful "Beatles Anthology" album and was behind other successes, including the "Beatles One" album. "As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come," the band's statement said. By The Herald Sun 24/03/2008 Mr Aspinall was expected to build a career as a conventional accountant when he struck up a friendship with the young McCartney and Harrison after they all gained places at the Liverpool Institute. Mr Aspinall once joked that they initially bonded over the illicit cigarettes they would smoke behind the school's air-raid shelters. "By the time we were ready to take the GCE exams, we'd added John Lennon to our 'Mad Lad' gang," he said. Once they became the Beatles, they also experimented with drugs. Mr Aspinall observed: "Quite a bit of marijuana was being smoked. It made recording a bit slower, but it didn't affect the quality of the work." Mr Aspinall started work for the band as the driver of their battered blue Commer van. He had an affair with Mona Best, mother of the band's first drummer, Pete Best, and in 1962 they had a son. He contributed to some Beatles recordings, playing percussion on Magical Mystery Tour and belting out the Yellow Submarine chorus. But his real genius was as a money man and in 1968 he took over Apple Corps, the company the Beatles had set up to manage their interests. He took computer giant Apple Inc to court three times over image infringement and the Beatles' company was awarded about $30 million in two of the suits. Just 11 months ago, he finally quit his job as Apple chief. ____________ This is one man I have always wished to meet.

Thank you for the post for letting us know of Neil Aspinall's untimely passing. I had read about Neil's affair with Pete Best's mom quite some time ago. I think later Pete approached Neil about his relationship with his mother and confirmed Vincent "Roag" is his half brother.

The Fest for Beatles Fans (formerly Beatlefest) had posted this article on their website on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 regarding Mr. Neil Aspinall's passing: "Former Apple Chief Neil Aspinall dies at 66" Neil Aspinall, the man who was probably the most trusted and loyal employee any company could ever have, died on March 23rd of Lung Cancer at the age of 66. He was schoolmates with Paul and George, became their roadie, and was with them every step of the way from 1961-2007, when he resigned at head of Apple. His accomplishments were many, with The Beatles Anthology and The Beatles 1 being at the top of the list. So many in the Beatles circle have died because of cigarettes, perhaps if any of you still smoke, it is a good time to throw them away and quit. It just isn’t worth it. Neil’s son, Roag Best (Pete’s half brother) has been to numerous FESTS over the past 4 years as the second Drummer in Pete’s band. Our condolences go out to his entire family.: www.thefest.com/news/index.php/2008/03/25/former-apple-chief-neil-aspinall-dies-at-66/

How well YouTube and other great sites function, heavily depends upon how much memory and processor speed your computer has, and which operating system you are using (WinXP, or Vista, or Win98, or Mac ?) ~ also, which version of which browser you're using. - Did you clear your browser's cache first? That would be the number one culprit keeping videos, pictures and other goodies from functioning properly.
- Sometimes when the video stops you can advance the slider a slight bit and it will pick up again.
- Waiting until the video is completely loaded and then playing it sometimes works good to keep it from repeated stopping.
- Finally, sometimes it's YouTube's fault, and you've just gotta refresh the page.
Good luck and tell me if any of these tips help!

Hey, Lawrence, I did not add that when you get to the YouTube video screen, you may click the button on the lower right corner underneath the YouTube screen. After clicking it, the video expands to cover the screen on your computer. You may click the button again (close) and the screen reduces to its original size. I expand the YouTube screen all the time when I view a video. You can join YouTube as it is free and create a Playlist of your favorite artist(s) and post your Favorites (video) on your channel. I watch YouTube videos almost every day. I guess you can say I am a YouTube junkie.

You can try watching the vids full-screen, but, in my case, doing this has always crashed our computers or, at the very best, played the audio all right but the video only showed progressive still frames. I think it depends upon several factors. You've gotta have: - A high-grade broadband cable or DSL internet provider and great connection speed.
- A good strong processor in your machine.
- Lots of RAM.
- Lots of hard drive.
Unfortunately, not all of us are this blessed. In fact, to make a lot of vids run smoothly, I am forced to make the YouTube image smaller rather than leave it at their default regular size. Ah well. Could be worse.

Thanks for the comment Eppylover. Alas, your ISP connection DOES make a BIG difference. In my case, I have broadband. I usually use my Toshiba laptop computer 1024MB with high memory. Expanding and closing the screen works marvelous on mine, no problem. What's great with broadband and having a router is being able to talk on the telephone while using the computer. So, no interference if anyone wants to use the telephone line instead of using a cell phone. I hope we are helping Lawrence out. Hey, Lawrence, did any of this info. help?

'Lost' John Lennon-Written Beatles Song To Be Released?
Will Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr Get Together to Finish the Song?
'Now And Then', a song written by John Lennon in the 1970s but never completed, could surface again as a tribute release to Neil Aspinall, the producer/record executive often described as 'the fifth Beatle', who died last month (March 24).
According to The Sun, the song, a home recording of which was made by Lennon, may see the light of day, although the tapes would require a lot of work on them to restore them to full quality.
The newspaper quotes an anonymous source who claims that discussions about releasing the song have been undertaken, but it is not clear whether Lennon's former bandmates, Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have been involved in the talks or are interested in adding newly-recorded music to the song.
"There have been discussions about finishing 'Now And Then'," the source is quoted as saying: "It would be quite a task. It will need a significant amount of work to get it into a condition where it could be released."

Pete Townshend, The WHO
THE WHO'S PETE TOWNSHEND paid a moving musical tribute to NEIL ASPINALL at his funeral on Monday (07Apr08) - by performing two of Aspinall's favourite songs at the ceremony. Townshend played Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" and late Beatle George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" at the service in St. Mary-the-Virgin Church in Twickenham, England. Aspinall was widely acknowledged as the 'Fifth Beatle' because of his close ties to band members Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. He served as the former road manager and business advisor for the Fab Four for over 40 years, and even sang backing vocals for the group's hit "Yellow Submarine."
Mourners at the funeral included Paul McCartney's children Stella and James, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, son Julian Lennon, Ringo Starr's wife Barbara Bach, Beatles producer Sir George Martin, and the band's original drummer Pete Best.
Aspinall died last month (Mar08) of lung cancer aged 66.
