THE BEATLES 27-DAY WORLD TOUR (Australia) Thursday, June 11, 1964 to Wednesday, July 1, 1964
This is a very rare Jimmy Nicol interview done in the airport lounge in Melbourne on June 15, 1964 just prior to his return home to England.
Jimmy Nichol is standing behind John Lennon, This is The Beatles tour in the Nederlands.
The Beatles were to tour Australia, but Ringo Starr fell ill while touring Sweden and stayed in a London hospital. Instead of canceling the tour, Jimmy Nicol was suggested to replace Ringo Starr as drummer while he recuperated from an illness. Jimmy Nicol performed with the Beatles for almost two weeks and toured with The Beatles in Sweden, Denmark, Holland and Hong Kong prior to the tour in Australia. After two weeks, Ringo became well enough to join the Beatles in Australia. On Sunday morning, June 14th, Ringo reunited with The Beatles in Melbourne. Upon Ringo's return to the band, Jimmy Nicol began to collect his belongings to go back home.
The next morning, Monday, June 15th, Jimmy Nicol is being interviewed by the press at the Melbourne Airport lounge. Brian Epstein was present with Jimmy Nichol and was also interviewed. After the interview, Brian Epstein escorts Jimmy to the Quantas Airlines plane and takes off. But before Jimmy's departure, Brian gives him a gold watch and pay reportedly 500 pounds.
