Listening to this studio outtake, I'm not certain what John's intentions were. What I am sure of, however, is that this piece of crap music is definitely not a tribute.
Recorded July 19, 1968 ~ not even one year after his death ~ it is fated to stand as the only song any Beatle ever wrote referring to Brian Epstein by name. Sad.
If Paul or Ringo have any balls at all, they would correct this discrepancy, and record a REAL tribute, actually mentioning his name ~ not another one of these obscure, esoteric references such as "Hide Your Love Away" and "Baby, You're A Rich Man," etc.
As much as Brian loved John ~
(and as much as John said, immediately after Brian's death, that Brian was lovable -- direct quote)
~ nevertheless, Lennon broke my heart with Brian Epstein Blues.
