Hello All,
I go by the screen-name of Syelar108 (don't ask - it's just a generic title). I've never been the best at coming up with titles. If I were writing for a newspaper/tabloid, I'd be in hot water when it came to 'attention getting.'
This forum (still in the original format) was discovered last fall, while I was looking up info on IMDb about The Hours and Times. That fact is a bit humorous; considering that Eppylover doesn't care for that film in the least. ;D I found her articles about Brian quite amusing, informative, and they sucked me in. Like most fans; I hadn't a clue as to "WHO" drove the Beatles, and what drove him.
I am originally from a city in Northern California called Redding. It's very pretty, but 'Hotter then Hades' during the summer months. Even during the '80s, times were very quaint for us out in the 'styx.'
My introduction to the Beatles came about (as I'm sure it does with a lot of kids) when my friend's father played us the Revolver LP. I remember vividly: she & I loved "Yellow Submarine" because we considered it so silly and catchy. Paul said in The Beatles: Illustrated Lyrics, "I knew it would get connotations, but it really was just a children's song. I loved the idea of kids singing it." My friend's father didn't say (at the time) that we were listening to the Beatles. It was a long time, before I made the connection.
It wasn't until ABC aired The Anthology in the fall of 1995, that I became fully aware of the group. How could you ignore the series with all that 'Freakin' advertising the network did? "A-Beatle-C," as I remember Paul (?) saying, when the network's logo would appear on the screen. I do wish that I would've saved the TV Guide issue about the series though - D'oh!
After that experience; I dipped my hands into the treasure chest of merchandise! By the spring of 1996; we'd moved to the SF Bay Area, and I remember the shops along the SF Piers had plenty of modern Beatle goodies.
If this wasn't another wave of 'Beatlemania,' then I don't know what was?
The first CDs I bought were the Anthology collections. It took a while, before I purchased the original works. The discman had the Beatles playing in my art class, while I worked on my Humongous pencil illustration of John Lennon. The drawing I did is based upon the group photo, opposite the linear notes to "Real Love." This can be found in the Anthology 2 booklet.
Today; I'm a Northern Nevada resident, and look forward to seeing Ringo in late July!!! It's been possible for me to see Paul twice, but I've missed him.
There's talk that this upcoming tour may be his last. According to the Eagles; their farewell tours are not quite accurate. With Paul; this may be a true fact. If he's going to be in San Jose, CA, then I'll probably go for it.
I'm only sorry that it's taken me (or us) even longer to discover Brian's contributions.
Another fact that makes me sad: Eppy never had a chance to see Yellow Submarine, or hear "Hey Jude," "Let It Be," "Something," and I could go on... I'm also a huge listener of Boston, Pink Floyd, Asia, Tom Petty, Rush, etc. We may not know some of these bands, if Brian hadn't discovered "His Boys." at the Cavern in 1961.
I look forward to upcoming film everyday, and have told many folks about it. Who knows what will happen when The 5th Beatle is released?!!! Thanks everyone. ;D
