From today's issue of The IrishTimesin an article entitled Martinmania- students celebrate The Beatles' producer ~ He was not immediately impressed when he first heard The Beatles. "I told him (manager Brian Epstein) that if he wanted me to sign them based on what he had played me of their music, the answer had to be 'No'," he said.
He was, though, impressed with their attitude. "They imparted a sense of wellbeing. I was hoping they might do the same for the audience," he said. EPPYLOVER NOTE: One pertinent fact that articles almost always fail to include ~ even at the times when George Martin DOES remember to mention it again ~ should be interjected between the two paragraphs above. That fact is: George Martin has often said in the past that he would never have even BOTHERED to have a first meeting with The Beatles had Brian not been so overpoweringly dedicated, excited and insistent upon it! It was BRIAN, and Brian alone, who radiated enthusiasm, and pushed, and cajoled, and finally caused George Martin to break down and think, oh what the heck...!...let's take a chance and see what this bloke is all OMG about!
